Dayan Jayathilleka: A victim of extremism

“We are deeply concerned. I explained to him [Sri Lanka President Mahinda Rajapaksa] we have legitimate concerns about the welfare of Sri Lankan Tamils. It has a bearing on Sri Lanka’s relations with India,” –Indian Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh at the Rajya Sabha

(July 21, Colombo, Sri Lanka Guardian) The nation of Sri Lanka was waiting for the new era to open with the outright defeat of the Tamil Tigers. The right thinking people also expected the age old pride and prejudice will wither away and sense and sensibility in our conduct will prevail in our dealings with the emerging era. Unfortunately, the Sinhala extremism is not showing any signs of abating and it is sidelining all hopes for a lasting peace that is badly needed for Sri Lanka to be seen as a responsible nation. These are the majoritan evil forces that will destroy the country like what Tigers did until two months ago. These evil forces are forcefully promulgating a rowdy dictatorship to undermine the much needed freedom and democracy in the country.

The hilarious of all is that these rabid extremists portray that they are the God blessed farthers of the recent victory in the War. Their arrogance is such that they disrespect the other races. These elements claim they played an important role in the elimination of the Tamil Tigers. In all honesty, the war was won with the wider engagement of the cross section of the communities in Sri Lanka and also with the support of the international community. But unfortunately the bigoted Sinhala extremism is claiming absolute ownership of the victory and as a result ignoring and insulting the other contributors.

It is progressively becoming evident that Sinhala extremists parties like JHU and NFF are influencing the government to sack or eliminate all positions held by the minorities and those of the Sinhala leaders who advocate and stand for the minorities legitimate rights. These evil forces are carrying out their distasteful politics at the expense of state resources thus undermining the people’s wishes and the country’s real need. It is unfortunate that these extremists are extending their bigoted game against the wishes of the people and without legitimate or moral authority. The real feeling in the country is that the majority of the people want these extremists to be a kicked out, but some of key elements within the Government advocate they are the elected representatives of the people. After the death of Rev. Gangodavila Soma Thero, the JHU is capitalizing over his dead body and trying to steal the public sympathy using the monk factor. This paved the way for the real thieves to come to the stage and join with the government to aggrandize their racist political agenda.

What is happening to the failing JVP sacked politician Wimal Weerawansha and his gang who are dilly dally dancing with the government to prop up the racist card? They are the same stock of JHU. There is cut and paste politics of the JHU.

According to our reading, the government must incorporate people like Prof. Nalin De Silva in their cabinet rather than the rabid ruts like the JHU/NFF. Nalin was the first person who openly said Tamil Tigers can be defeated military. That time the JHU and NFF covertly supported the separatism of the LTTE and they were against persons like Nalin De Silva. With the defeat of the LTTE the tune of their song has changed and it is seriously hampering the credibility of the government. This will cause more harm to the government unlike before when LTTE was dictating its terms to the government. This will endanger our international relationship and will be harmful to our image.

These rabid extremists established their status by attacking the properties and religious places. Then they targeted the minorities and they have now progressed attack the embassies with the ulterior motive to intimidate these embassies for not giving visas for their extremists cadres.

They are now engineering a process to sack all those who are advocating the minority’s legitimate rights and exposing the real situation on the ground. Dayan Jayatileke’s dismissal from the UN service is part of this calculated game. People who were concerned about the conflict in Sri Lanka knows very well how Dayan was working to create a good image of the Country whilst these rabid fronts were extending their agenda against the Country. In 2007 Dayan was appointed as our representative in Geneva, and he has done his best for the Country. He never failed to openly advocate his stance on the legitimate rights of the minorities. Dayan is not a selfish or an ego centric man. He is a loud advocate for justice. He was a great symbol for Sri Lanka’s diplomatic relationship whilst some irresponsible officials waste countries’ resources and has not done meager of what Dayan has done for our country. Without Dayan, credibility of Sri Lanka would have deeply shrunk. It is unfortunate that Dayan has become the victim of these ignoramus extremists.

Loss of Dayan is an uncompromising loss for our international politics. Our trusted neighbour India gave all the support for the government for the elimination of the Tigers but if Sri Lanka is to extend its petty indulgences, India will never give its full support to eliminate the Tiger politics in the future. Prime Minister Mannohan Singh will be compelled to take a strong line if our country becomes the paradise of the crazy extremists.

According to sources close to the government, the decision to sack Dayan Jayathillake was taken at the recent NAM summit in Cairo. It was a hurried decision taken by the President whilst privately discussing about the 13 Amendment to the constitution with Wimal Weerawansa, Foreign Minister Bogollagama and other key players of the Government. While they were discussing about Dayan, it was said: “EYA GANATA WADIYA NATANAWA,” (He is dancing to his own tune). This was the final slap and the President informed Minister Bogollagama to recall Dayan. The Foreign Minister made a call to his ministry officials in Colombo and asked them to send a fax to Dayan in Geneva informing his termination. The President did not utter a single word criticizing Dayan this was a body blow Daya’s arch enemies. The personal enmity between Bogollagama and Dayan helped the racist minds of the JHU and NFF to score a major victory to have their say in the decision making.

13th amendment is an affront to the soverignity of Sri Lanka.Imposed by India under a threat of invasion , passed by an illegal parliment elected by a referandum whose members were held to ransom by a trator who threatened them with forced letters of resignation. The sinhala tamil problem will not be solved by deviding the pie. It will only be solved when the sinhalese and tamils feel they feel secure in each others company. For this India must stop interfering. 13th amendment will only devide the country and is unsuited for the country.

Ambassador Dayan Jayathilleke's role was incomparable while the West was trying to lynch Sri Lanka over the defeat of Tigers.
But what is behind this replacement of Dayan is not the reason evoked by the so-called HR heros!
Dayan's mistake was to be too outspoken regarding the atrocities perpetrated by Israel!
He seemed to have underestimated the hidden and open power of this Jewish state.
Less than one week's time this regime killed 1300 Palestinians!(Human Rights watch was asleep!)
Dayan was vehemently critical of these atrocities. He pinpointed how more than one million Irakiens had been slaughtered by US army.
If one talks against Israel it is a "BLASPHEME!"
Dayan is paying for his disobedience!
Please do not haste to blame "Sinhala extremism"!
President François Mitterand is said to have declared at the last moment of his presidency: I was so uneasy with Jewish Lobby!
No one can come against the State of Chosen people!

I remeber writing a coment about his passion for the implementation of the 13th Amendment. What I did not write (even thought it crossed my mind at the time) was that his days may be numbered if he was to be passionately taliking about it. How ture it is today. He is gone and gone are the days for an opportunity for a solution. MR has it in mind and does not want the others to know and can Dayan find a job elsewhere and may be I can assist him here as an IDP.
