KP pins hopes on India

(July 30, Chennai, Sri Lanka Guardian) New LTTE Leader Selvarasa Pathmanathan alias KP expressed confidence that India would help Eelam Tamils achieve their aspirations for a separate homeland.

In an interview to one of the Indian News Paper from an undisclosed location in Europe, he also said MDMK general secretary Vaiko and Sri Lankan Tamil Protection Movement convenor P. Nedumaran were unwilling to accept the fact that Prabhakaran was dead.

When asked about Mr Vaiko and Mr Nedumaran maintaining that Prabhakaran was still alive, he said, “They are unwilling to accept the truth. Our leader attained martyrdom along with other cadres in the last phase of war at Mullivaikkal.”

He said he tried to get the mortal remains of the slain LTTE chief. “However, our leader’s blood relatives did not come forward to receive his body,” he said.

KP said several countries in the world, including India, have expressed their concern to the Sri Lankan government about the sufferings of Eelam Tamils.

“At present, we have constituted a working committee that will explore the idea of forming a transnational Tamil Eelam government. The committee is drafting an action plan to achieve Tamil Eelam which has been the dream of our people for over half-a-century,” he said.

“India stood by the marginalised people in the past and helped them achieve liberation. Eelam Tamils across the globe believe that India will help them achieve liberation as it did in the past. India should understand us,” he said when asked about India’s role in the future of Lankan Tamils.

KP also expressed the confidence that the Sinhalese government would accept ethnic Tamils as their equals in due course.

KP has been wheeling and dealing for LTTE in the past 25 years. Now he claims to be the leader of remanent LTTE cadres and its declining core supporters.

Before he strategises the next phase of Tamil Eelam struggle one important issue that he ignores is an apology for the atrocities committed by the LTTE namely:

The war with IPKF

The murders/massacres committed by the LTTE including Tamils, Sinhalese and Muslims.

Ethnic cleansing of Muslims from the north.

Banning and killing of other Tamil groups who were also fighting for the cause.

Killing of Political leaders including Rajiv Ganthi.

Forced recruitment and using child soldiers as cannon fodder.

The list of LTTE atrocities is limitless.

KP should use this opportunity to apologise unreservedly to the people, states and those who suffered in the hands of LTTE. If this is not forth coming let him forget about his new venture.

By the way as the new leader would he now agree to account for LTTE's investments abroad?

He is wanted by the Interpol yet he is roaming freely all over the world. Who is protecting him and in return what has he promised to deliver?

KP what is the deal. A fugitive is given the same importance as the President of Sri Lanka. What a pathetic independent journalism some are crying foul. KP can make these monstrous clams, but the media portray as if he has legitimate right to do so. Though KP is a fugitive, he seems to be comfortable travelling around the world with the money showered by the Tamil Diaspora. While a set of Tamil writers talk about 13th amendment, others are going about talking about separation. Then another faction is talking about hardships of IDP in western standards. They do not have resources to send to their brethren in the IDP camps, but have money to pour to KP for his extravagance travel.
We have to find a way to weed out any remaining LTTE sympathizers, before we talk about permanent solutions. Those concessions should be given to ordinary Tamil people, and not the LTTE sympathizers who will use them and destroy Sri Lanka once again. That is where we have a problem, and that is why we have to take time in making proper concessions in our negotiations. Of course Tamil people also will have to make concessions to the government in making a meaningful agreement.
