An Open Letter to the President of Sri Lanka

By R Manoharan

Dear Mr President

(August 21, London, Sri Lanka Guardian) What are your legitimate reasons for keeping the innocent displaced Tamils from Wanni as a result of the war behind the barbed wires, worse than Nazi concentration camps in the 21st century?

Until such time you win the war, your rhetoric was to liberate the innocent Tamils from the clutches of the Tamil Tigers. How do you explain that the innocent population before and during the war turned out to be the villains of the nation after the war?

Under the pretext of the liberation war, you have committed the worst crimes against humanity in the human history of the 21st century. The conservative estimate of the international organizations about the death of the innocent Tamils during the operation of war is 20,000 but we have reliable information that it is many fold.

However, it is not the time for us to argue about that but we want to know the reason why these people are made refugees in their own land. Why should they suffer forever behind the barbed wires and being under surveillance of the men in uniform with guns?

The young people are disappearing from this world as they are detained in the camps. Your media is announcing that they are escapees from the camps. The government must not hoodwink its people and the international community.

Your government knows well that most of the people who are now held in the camps are those who moved into Wanni during the Sinhala military invasion of Jaffna, Batticaloe and Trincomalee in the past. Before that, the Wanni area was only the fertile farmlands.

Now, don’t give the landmines as an excuse, you can get your military to clear those in their own space of time and make the Wanni area available for cultivation again by the Tamils.

So now, if your heart and conscience is clear and without any hidden agendas, release those people immediately. We, the Tamils of Sri Lanka know well how to look after our kith and kin.

You know well that the environmental conditions in the camps are not at all suitable for the swines even to live. How can you expect people to live under those conditions? Release them and they will go back to their own homes. We make this demand as the legitimate rights of the citizens of Sri Lanka who are being detained behind barbed wires for no reasons and who have the right to be freed immediately.

Hi All,
Do you know there is a school of thought about why this government is holding the IDP's indefinetly and not willing to send them back to their respective homes in the North and North east.

THE PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION AND THE GENERAL ELECTION ARE TO BE HELD WITHIN THE NEST SIX MONTHS.

During the last Presidential election this goverment was very friendly with the LTTE abd gave them money to make sure the Tamils in the North did note vote for the UNP.President won by less than 100,000 votes
This time round they will hold the 250,000 IDP's and either make them vote for them or refuse the right to vote because their IDs cannot be verified.

ANOTHER RESUSLT IN THE GOVERNMENTS FAVOUR TO RULE/MISRULE THE COUNTRY FOR ANOTHER 6 YEARS!

Do you want the Gov of SL to put right forthwith, what the LTTE had systematically destroyed over a period of 30 years including brainwashing of the Tamil masses.

Have you ever protested in this forum or elsewhere all these years when the innocent Wanni Tamils were in the crutches of the LTTE?

Have patience and trust in the democratic governance of governance.
