Pressure on newspaper for revealing Rs.10 million waste

(August 21, Colombo, Sri Lanka Guardian) ‘Triad Advertising Agency,’ an advertising agency has got agitated when a press release by the ‘Movement for the Protection of the Rights and Property of CGR’ stating that Rs.10 million was being spent for a TV advertisement to advertise the northern railways appeared in newspapers.

It is learnt that the relevant advertising agency has issued a statement attempting to free the government and the Minister of Transport from the accusation. A reliable source also reports that the relevant advertising agency has threatened that it would not publish any advertisement from the agency in the newspaper.

A spokesman for ‘Movement for the Protection of the Rights and Property of CGR’ speaking to ‘unionslanka’ said their announcement did not mention any advertising agency regarding the announcement on the TV advertisement and the announcement merely exposed the unnecessary spending by the Rajapakse government. He further said those responsible for the ignominious acts take cover and use various cats paws to answer for them which proves the impotency of the Rajapakse government and its ministers.
