DMDK to storm Delhi

(September 28, Chennai, Sri Lanka Guardian) DMDK president Vijayakanth and his party cadres, set to hold a day-long hunger strike in New Delhi tomorrow to protest against the Centre’s lethargic approach towards the attacks on Tamilnadu fishermen by the Lankan navy, has said that the government should take steps to provide for full freedom for Tamilians in the island nation.

DMDK cadres from different parts of Tamilnadu are camping in the capital to participate in the hunger strike which is to take place in the Janthar -Manthar.

Vijayakanth told newspersons that, ‘Though Tamilnadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi had written to the Centre requesting its intervention, it has turned a blind eye to the sufferings of the fishermen.’

He added: ‘While innocent Tamils in the island nation were killed under the guise of war, these governments (Union and Tamilnadu) were remaining as mute witnesses without initiating any concrete measure to stop the war. Hence, we condemn the Centre and the Tamilnadu government.’

The hunger strike would be led by Vijayakanth. The cadres would carry placards demanding cessation of hostilities in the Island nation.

It may be noted that the DMDK had requested Southern Railway for a special train to reach New Delhi. But the railway officials rejected the request, so the party secretary and others opted for other mode of transport to participate in the day- long fast.
