Galle district UPFA candidate remanded as CID and PSD probe continues on his comments

(September 21, Colombo, Sri Lanka Guardian) Galle district UPFA candidate for the southern PC elections Nishantha Mutuhettigama who has claimed that the police were ineffective and the IGP was a supporter of the main opposition has been remanded today as two separate teams - one from the CID and the other from the PSD are investigating allegations made by him.

Police spokesman DIG Nimal Mediwaka said that in view of the serious allegations made by the candidate.

The candidate speaking to a private tv station blamed the police for assaulting him without carrying out proper investigations into previous allegations made.

The candidate had earlier allegedly threatened actress Anarkali Akarsha and surrendered to Courts in Galle last week and after he was bailed out he led a group to attack Anarkali's office.

The internal clash in the UPFA has been described as set back to the party.

He will be produced again before the Magistrate tomorrow.
