The greatest Country on Earth, agree Simpleman?

“There is no law for the ordinary citizen in our country. It is the law of the politician for the politician. Everything from midwifery (Vinnambukama) to appointing Vice Chancellors is taken over by the politician. In the near future women would not be allowed to give birth until the politician is present to supervise.”

(September 08, Colombo, Sri Lanka Guardian) The questioning of Rajpal Abenayaka’s suitability to question others by a simple but poignant analysis of a simple but intelligent Simpleman inspired me to write these few words. I read some of the articles of Rajpal Abeynayaka in relation to Basil Fernando’s debate with him for the undermining of another journalist. Rajpal’s responses appeared to me as coming from a very cynical and arrogant person who seems to assume that he is incomparable. He has the acumen to choose sharp vocabulary although a neutral reader may find them a little too offensive. May be my judgment has been prejudiced since another journalist has questioned his integrity regarding Tissainayagam who was a close colleague of Rajpal.

My main focus is to draw people like Simpleman and the likes to enlighten the blessed Sri Lanka masses who believe that ours is the Loken Uthum Rata (the greatest country on earth) and Api Okkoma Rajawaru (we are all kings). Surprisingly Ranil Wikkramasingha is planning to make all of us kings although he has missed the boat while they were rowing. Unsurprisingly there are plenty of lickers (wandi Bhattayo) who pretend to crown Mahinda Rajpaksha and to make the rest of the Rajpakshas royalty. The lickers of Premadasa had the same tendency to contradict the public belief that he is a commoner by dressing up some photos of his parents and displaying them. “Lickers do not change only the arses do”. Well said John!

The reason of my attempt to draw intelligent people on to this subject is the knowledge that thousands (may be millions) of Sri Lankans who have seen the world outside Sri Lanka dream to see our country develop and will have both social and economic status similar to that of the countries in the West or at least similar to that of our South East Asian neighbours, Singapore, Hong Kong and Malaysia. We all are aware that the country has the potential in every sphere to be developed. We are all frustrated with the knowledge that it is never going to happen as long as the masses are fed with the concepts of Loken Uthum Rata and Api Okkoma Rajawary while ours is one of the poorest and us one of the most uncivilised, undeveloped and brutal nations.

Us first.

Ravana to Sri Wikkrama and many in between fell victim to the betrayals of our own people. No matter whether it was Vibhishana or Pilimathalawa, they were us. One excellent example from modern history is that many people betrayed their neighbours and relatives for petty grudges during the JVP insurrections and as a result many innocent youth were murdered by the security forces and the political killer squads. The most recent but a glaring example of a betrayal of a fellow journalist is one of the editorials of The Island newspaper that compared the sentence of J.S Tissainayagam with Sadam Husain’s. This was written in the pretext of criticising the US for meddling with our sovereignty but in truth to get brownie points from the Government. Daily we hear about abductions, kidnap, murder, rape and robberies.

That’s us doing them. We have seen and heard how brutal we can be when headless corpses were displayed at street corners, when bellies of pregnant mothers were sliced open, when children were smashed against rocks and so on. That’s us again. A young woman cannot risk her life on street at late hours for the fear of being snatched away and raped or a young couple cannot walk hand in hand for the fear of being harassed by the onlookers. Who are the culprits? Us. Yet we claim that we are a civilised nation and our traditions have been fashioned by some of the greatest religions of the world. I laugh!

Our Country next

Economically Sri Lanka is one of the poorest countries in the world. The majority of the people lead meagre life styles. If not for our women labouring for the Arabs and probably getting crushed under the pot bellies of fat and smelly Arabs our economy could be in tatters. Simply when we cross the air ports of the Arabian countries we feel the contempt that the uneducated Arabs have for us Sri Lankans because we let our women slave for the Arabs. If we determine to develop our country and raise the standards of the poor people, women folk would not have to slave and we can live with our dignity intact. In our country politicians become beggars at the elections and kings soon after. They cannot be called by name or at Least Mahaththaya once elected but your Excellency (Uthumaneni). They can frame everyone for something. It is said that the police are now spreading the news that the three journalists who were arrested in Deniyaya were plotting to kill the president. Oh lord! do they have nothing else to do other than plotting to kill the President? I laugh again. No wonder people like Dr. Rajarathnam blatantly begging favours by praising the politicians. Read what he wrote about or to Rohitha Bogollagama etc. What a shame!

There is no law for the ordinary citizen in our country. It is the law of the politician for the politician. Everything from midwifery (Vinnambukama) to appointing Vice Chancellors is taken over by the politician. In the near future women would not be allowed to give birth until the politician is present to supervise. Our country is such that if the politician wants to frame you they will frame you for something. If there is nothing at all to frame you they may even claim that your penis is too large for a country of men with small penises, a relative offence to be imprisoned. That’s our country, the Greatest on earth?

Brother,

Looks like you are writing this from srilanka where killers live, be carefull. What is the way forward to this problem, how a small minority of politisians cheet all srilankans. I can believe that, see what those Karuna, Duglus animals doing to fill there bellies. There was a hope earlier that JVP can do some thing, but they are the worst people like those uruma people. Hope one day the country will get rid of this family politics and propper. I think country need people like " INDIAN" a film by Kamalhasan.
Glad to see there are good singhalese also. I do not like tamils, they can be bought, very selfish, greedy pigs.Capable to sell mother or daughter for the right money.
