Janaka Perera killing: CID told to submit detailed report

(October 21, Anuradhapura, Sri Lanka Guardian) Anuradhapura chief magistrate and additional district judge Darshika Wimalasiri ordered the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) to submit a detailed report on the progress of investigations into the assassination of Major General Janaka Perera, on the 3rd of next month.

This order was issued when the case was called up before the Anuradhapura Magistrate's court yesterday.

The CID informed court that indictments against the suspects in the case would be filed within a very short time.

The CID added that they had held extensive discussions with the Attorney General in that regard.

Furthermore, the CID noted that they had now completed investigations into the assassination and that all future proceedings would take place under the direct supervision of the CID and Attorney General's Department.

They added that extracts of the case needed to file indictments had been forwarded to the Attorney General.

Meanwhile, the chief magistrate ordered two of the ten suspects in the case to be placed under the custody of the CCID under detention orders.

The remaining eight suspects were further remanded until the 3rd of November.
