Little Aid, has successfully transported ton of medicine to Vavunia Hospital

(October 13, Colombo, Sri Lanka Guardian) Little Aid, a registered charity in the UK, has successfully transported 1140 KG (1.12 Tonne) of medicine to Vavunia Hospital. This large quantity of medicine was donated by a Danish Charity, Medicine without Borders. The majority of the medicine had a very long expiry date of July 2011.

This consignment consists of seven kinds of medicine used for very common deceases such as high cholesterol, as well as general pain killers and medicine for anxiety and depression, heartburn and stomach ulcers. These medicines are valued for £16,500 (Rs 30 Lacks). Iniativet 2009 secured this donation from Medicine without Borders.

This consignment was sent to Katunayake by Air Cargo on 16th September 09 and delivered to Vavunia on 6th October 09. Dr (Mrs) Bavani Pasupathyrajah (Medical Superintendent - Vavunia Hospital) and the Assistant Government Agent Mr Sampanthan officially received the consignment from our Little Aid representatives in Sri Lanka, Dr Nimal Kariyawasam and Mr Mark Fernando.

Since this successful operation, Iniativet 2009 have a secured further 7000 KG medicine from a Norwegian organisation. Little Aid intends to distribute this medicine to Internally Displaced People in Puttlam, Mullaitivu, Vavunia and Jaffna area.

Little Aid started as a registered charity on 18th May 09. Until now Little Aid has transported fresh vegetables, infant milk powders and garments from Dambulla to Chettikulam camps. Little Aid is also in the midst of completing another project in Ambepusse Rehabilitation Centre where it is co-ordinating a project to teach music to the ex-combatants. This project is undertaken solely by Little Aid with the co-operation of Ministry of Law & Reforms – Sri Lanka.
