Read our original story: Major Gen. Jagath Dias butchered Pirabakaran

(October 25, Colombo, Sri Lanka Guardian) Lots of strong sentiments have been expressed by a section of the readers, which we find is emotive and is lacking in rationalising the real issues involved.

We have to deal with the issues of such magnitude beyond our emotions. Pirabakaran has come under real scrutiny in their comments. This is welcome. What this section of the some of commentators failed to understand is ‘who created the Pirabakaran monster’. It is not the Tamil people alone. Tamils will say Pirabakaran is the necessary evil to confront the evil governments that systematically marginalised them in a brutal way. But unfortunately, Pirabakaran has gone beyond the limits and that is why he failed.

About the authenticity of the news, it is based on facts provided by reliable sources. Even Gotabaya’s comments privately given have been embodied without quoting his name.

Unless and until free access to the media is given and an independent inquiry is undertaken, we will not go to the bottom of the colossal human rights violations in the conduct of the war by the government. Even Pirabakaran is a victim of this mission, as the army has violated the international laws and covenants that Sri Lanka has subscribed to.

Based on the information obtained, Pirabakaran had surrendered. He should have gone through the due process in a democratic society and faced the ultimate punishment judiciously. Sri Lanka stands criminalised over its conduct.

Then about Rohana Wijeweera, the truth of his horrific death is still not thoroughly debated by the Sri Lankans. If justice was meted out to those involved in his killing under the law of the land and the international covenants, Sri Lanka would not have continued in this manner in its war in the north. This has paved the way for the state forces to enjoy impunity sanctioned by the state.

Dear Chaminda

Issue 1. Pirabakaran’s death must be investigated for the truth to be established. There are so many issues involved for the people of Sri Lanka and this is one of them. For Sri Lanka to remain as a respectable member of the global village it must behave in a responsible manner. Why not Sri Lanka abrogates all the international covenants it has subscribed to.

Issue 2. There is nothing wrong in dealing with the actual issues facing the Tamil people while issues of the final stages of war are investigated.

Issue 3. We must stop attributing everything on the Western powers. This is an easy excuse to continue with the deadly path of dealing with issues so frightfully. Sri Lanka did bad things with JVP uprising and it has done it against the Tamil civilian population this time in a much aggressive way. Sri Lanka is now talking about exporting its aggressive war culture to other counties. A state must follow certain acceptable practices and it cannot take the law into its own hand. International War Crimes hearing is a must for Sri Lanka to ensure good behaviour towards its people in the future.

Issue 4. Sri Lanka should have carried out wide ranging risk assessment beforehand and envisaged the consequences of its brutal efforts against the civilian society to get rid of the LTTE.

Please note Hitler’s death is still being investigated and the Jewish people are still remembering the holocaust whilst actively contributing to world development

Debating how the terror chief met its end is a dead ringer. Debate something useful such as how Tamil politicians could take the path of non confrontational politics, debate about the actual hardship Tamils endure in their daily life. Then as human beings, the masses would feel and the pain. Getting together with Western powers and going about with confrontational politics against the democratically elected SL government and its masses is not going to solve any of your problems.

"Defence Investigator" why not identify yourself.

You are talking platitudes without specifics. Now you are even talking about Rohana Wijeweera who was responsible for the deaths of several tens of thousands of youth, irreparable damage to education of thousands and damage to the economy of Sri Lanka

As I said before, a bit of imagination with some twisting of facts and you have come up with a sensational sounding story without any substance or basis.

Unfortunately this story will be grabbed on by tamil eezhamists and others bent on vilifying Sri Lanka and its armed force and given wide publicity.

Perhaps that was your intention in the first place.!!!!
