Sri Lankan refugees' issue: Nedumaran calls on Ramadoss

(October 04, Chennai, Sri Lanka Guardian) Tamil Nationalist Movement leader P Nedumaran today called on PMK founder Dr S Ramadoss at the latter’s Thailapuram residence.

According to sources, Nedumaran, who was returning from Thanjavur after attending a public meeting visited Ramadoss. The leaders, who are known for their pro-Tamil sentiments, were closetted for over one hour. Reports say that the two had discussed in detail about the travails of Tamils in the neighbouring island nation.

The meeting assumes significance as Union Home Minister P Chidambaram yesterday said that the Union government would decide soon on sending an MPs delegation to the island nation to know the condition of Tamils there.

Chidambaram further said that the DMK has passed a resolution that permanent citizenship should be provided to Lankan refugees in India. Prime Minister Manmohan Singh after holding discussions with External Affairs Minister S M Krishna, would decided on it soon, he said.

Tamilnadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi also has said that he would take steps to ensure that the Centre granted citizenship to the more than one lakh Sri Lankan Tamil refugees living in the State if they desired so.
