(October 05, Colombo, Sri Lanka Guardian) If anyone mentioned the name Bandaranaike, he would get a white van ride by night, says Ranil Wickremasinghe, Opposition leader and leader of the United National Party.
Addressing a rally organised in Elpitiya on Saturday, he said that when UNPers began a speech, they mentioned names such as D. S. Senanayake and Dudley Senanayake.
“I know that members of the SLFP like to vote for their party. Members of the Sama Samaja Party wish to vote for their party. Likewise, the Communisit Party members would like to vote for their own party, from their area.
“However, this time round, they will not vote for their own parties. I have travelled to Hambantota, Matara and Galle. Tell me if there is a portrait of S. W. R. D. Bandaranaike or of Mrs. Sirimavo Bandaranaike?” Mr. Wickremasinghe asked.
