234,000 IDPs already resettled in N&E

(November 20, Colombo, Sri Lanka Guardian) Of the internally displaced persons in welfare camps, 234,000 have already been resettled and another 130,000 will be resettled soon, says U. L. M. Haldeen, Secretary to the Ministry of Resettlement. The resettling of the remaining IDPs had already commenced in areas such as Jaffna, Trincomalee, Batticaloa, Ampara and Vavuniya, he said and added that resettlement activities in Mullaitivvu and Kilinochchi were partially over.

Mr. Haldeen also said that steps had been taken to provide those individuals with basic facilities as well.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Nation Building says that de-mining activities in Kilinochchi and Mullaitivu are being expedited.

Secretary to the Ministry, W. K. K. Kumarasiri noted that a special programme had been launched to provide those individuals with assistance to earn their livelihoods.

Steps were being taken to provide them with equipment for day-to-day farming activities, the secretary said.
