Unions to go ahead with Wednesday's work to rule campaign, as talks with Treasury fails

(November 09, Colombo, Sri Lanka Guardian) The demands of the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation (CPC) unions are to be submitted to President Mahinda Rajapaksa as talks between the unions and the Treasury to prevent Wednesday's work to rule campaign failed and unions vowed to go ahead with the union action.

Petroleum Minister A.H.M.Fowzie and Treasury Secretary Dr. P.B.Jayasundara with the anti govenment as well as pro-government unions today evening failed prompting the unions to decided to go ahead with their work to rule campaign.

"We wanted the government to agree that our salaries should be increased keeping with the agreement that salaries should be increased every three years. Accordingly our salaries should have gone up in January 2009. But the government did not agree on that", Trade Union spokesman D.J.Rajakaruna said.

He said the talks ended saying that the matter would have to be taken up with the President.

The ports, electricity, and water boar workers are due to join the union action.
