Sri Lanka should be vigilant of International conspiracies

(December 08, Colombo, Sri Lanka Guardian) From all that is happening now, it appears that the presidential election to be held in January 2010 is going to be a unique and an unprecedented contest. The entry of former Army Commander, Sarath Fonseka into the fray has created a peculiar type of excitement and concern in the presidential elections this time. Never has a previous presidential election evoked so much of interest among all strata’s of society be it the poor, the middle class or the wealthy. Everybody is eagerly awaiting to vote in this times presidential elections.

Campaigning started from early November and it continues in robust style and manner. Promises as usual are made never to be kept and the masses are going to be fooled. In fact the masses know that they are going to be fooled, but they cannot resist the excitement of taking part in the election as they have the chance of getting something in the likes of free food, liquor and money for helping candidates in their campaigning. A carnival atmosphere prevails which is most times interspaced with violent killings and mayhem. Printers have a field day making lots of money by preparing posters and cut-outs. Newspapers circulation increases ten-fold, with Lankan literates extensively reading political news and debates daily. The whole nation comes alive during election time underscoring the necessity of democracy in our tiny island.

There has been a charge of international conspiracy with the entry of Sarath Fonseka, implying that he is an agent of the US which seeks to eliminate President Mahinda Rajapakse. This charge cannot be dismissed lightly because all circumstantial evidence points to this opinion of an international conspiracy. Sarath Fonseka holds a green card and the US has carefully groomed him for the role of president, just like they persuaded Benazir Bhutto to contest in the Pakistan elections a couple of years ago to remove president Musharaf and his prime-minister. Ms Benazir Bhutto had to pay with her life for her adventure. Of course she too wanted to be elected as the prime minister in Pakistan. The US prodded her, promising help in the campaign and aid to Pakistan if she was pliant to US wishes.

President Rajapakse is patriotic and national minded who wows not to bow to US and Europeon demands. The US and the European countries under subterfuge were more sympathetic to Velupillai Prabhakaran and the L.T.T.E than to the majority Sinhalese people. All along Rajapakse was aware of this conspiracy and did not yield to the demands of these imperialist countries.

To off-set this Western conspiracy Rajapakse chose China, Iran, Vietnam, Pakistan, Venezuela, Myanmar, India, Palestine and Libya as friends. This enraged the US and the Europeans especially the close relationship between Iran and Sri Lanka as they consider president Ahamadinejad and Iran as anathema. Rajapakse has cemented an excellent friendship with Ahamadinejad and both are wary of the US and its European allies who are likely to do anything to provide for a Fonseka victory.

In addition to this, Sri Lanka has presently become a geo-strategic centre of utmost importance for the big powers. All big powers envy Sri Lanka. In the event of a future war that may occur in South Asia or South East Asia, the US and Europe also fear the rise of China which may confront the US in the future. For these reasons the US needs a pliant leader in Sri Lanka to implement its agenda in the region. It appears that Sarath Fonseka is the right man in the right place to help the US implement it’s diabolical plan. The government must not dismiss these possibilities lightly, but watch for any suspicious movements of Sarath Fonseka. The intelligence units of the armed forces should be alert to the presence of any C.I.A operatives in Sri Lanka at time of the elections and after. Sri Lanka’s foreign policy under Mr. Rajapakse is similar to the enlightened foreign policy of Mr. and Mrs. Bandaranaike during their time when in power. No body should be given the opportunity to be unpatriotic in this crucial time when Sri Lanka is developing after a 26 year war that Rajapakse put down. Rajapakse will undoubtedly win, but conspiracy by Western powers, just like after the presidential elections in Iran, can precipitate unforeseen mayhem and trouble.

Sri Lanka should be consistently told to be vigilant before and after the elections, and ensure that a peaceful and non-violent presidential election takes place in January of next year.

Our friend worried about 30,000 singhalese got killed, but not a single word about more than 100,000 innocent tamils got killed by chemical and cluster bombs. If the article is written by God he could have mentioned. Never mind God knows to punish criminals, con not escape.
