Arrested General provided full protection, says military spokesman

(February 09, Colombo, Sri Lanka Guardian) General Sarath Fonseka is under full protection after being taken into custody by the military police last night, said the spokesman for the military.

Major General Prasad Samarasinghe, military spokesman said that General Fonseka would be under military law until six months after his retirement from the Army.

He said the General had been arrested for violating military law and added that all necessary facilities had been provided for the General.

Accordingly, arrangements have been made to allow family members and lawyers to visit him and steps have been taken to provide him with medical facilities, said the military spokesman.
