Don’t vote for the militant hooligans in the ruling party

By Levins T C Rajaratnam

(April 05, Colombo, Sri Lanka Guardian) At 8.30 p.m. on Sunday I received a call from Mr.Satchithanandan in Jaffna stating that his life is in danger and that he was threatened and summoned to Jaffna by the EPDP to handover some files. He said he was taken by a pick up van.

He worked in the office of a Militant Leader and left recently as he was mistreated and assaulted. He was warded at Nawaloka Hospital and was later discharged.

Mr.Satchithanandan was a former Navy Officer. Whilst speaking to me the line went dead. Several attempt to reach him failed.

He stated that the allegations made by Ms.Patkunarajah –the Mayor a stooge of a militant leader and criminal, against the SLFP candidate were false.

Mrs.Patkunarajah had made allegation about Mr.Ramanathan No.1 candidate of the UPFA,SLFP candidate.

Although the Select Committee of the UPFA has erred to let the militant group led by a man of criminal track record together with his bodyguards to contest the Jaffna district after liberating the North from the Tigers, the group showed that it can never reform. The Jaffna people and the other contestants from all political parties have made complaints against the ruthless militant group which has fallen into deaf ears. When such blatant violations of elections laws and criminal law are done and no action is taken, it is then that the international community makes adverse reports. Do we need such a militant group to disgrace us. There is a Proverb in Tamil, “Kulathalave aagumam kunam”(The caste depicts the character and general disposition).Every act of this militant group has undermined and desecrated the good work of the Government and the UPFA.

The Jaffna people are under the impression that the Government is encouraging the hooligans to have their own way.

The Tamils have had enough of this humiliation. So, as a member of the SLFP, I urge the people to vote for the SLFP candidates but not the militant hooligans and their leader. We don’t want substitutes for Pirabaharan.
