No inquiries into judges sexual abuse case

(July 13, Colombo, Sri Lanka Guardian) On 11 July we published the story of sexual abuse by a judge of the court of appeal. We have learned that despite of complaints been made and medical reports available, police are not conducting any inquiries. The case is very much the talk among legal community in Colombo. A police source that want to remain anonymous stated that the complaint is very much known to the police but without clearance from the top no one is willing to investigate the case as that would create lot of problems to the investigators.

Earlier a new paper revealed details of serious allegations regarding the same judge on a land rated matter. After investigations, then Chief justice wanted to take serious action against the judge. However, due to political interference no action was taken against him. According to some lawyers there are several more allegations of crimes exists against this judge.

Fears are been expressed about safety of the woman who has been sexual abused and injured. The fears are that she may be abducted and harmed to prevent further inquiries.
