Bune and Deva discuss about the development of traditional industries in Sri Lanka

(October 09, Colombo, Sri Lanka Guardian) A discussion was held between Neil Bune, Resident Representative of the United Nations in Sri Lanka and Douglas Devananda, Minister of Traditional Industries and Small Enterprise Development, concerning the Development of Traditional Industries and Small Enterprises at the Ministry of Traditional Industries and Small Enterprise Development, on the 07th of October, 2010.

The Discussion focused on how best the Sri Lankan Traditional Industries and Small Enterprises could be developed with aid from United Nations Organization and support from the Sri Lanka Industrial Development Board, Palmyrah Development Board, National Design Centre and North Sea Limited, operating under the purview of the Ministry of Traditional Industries and Small Enterprise Development. It was also discussed the possibility of exchanging and training those involved in the Traditional Industries and Small Enterprises through a UNO intervened collaborative programme for development of Traditional Industries and Small Enterprises of the South Asian Countries, especially, the development of plantain fibre products and introduction of Palmyrah products to the International Market.

This discussion was attended by V. Sivagnanasothy, the Ministry Secretary, V. Jegarasasingham, Advisor to the Minister, and V. Rajkumar, Co-ordinating Secretary to the Minister.
