(October 24, Colombo, Sri Lanka Guardian) A major fire which broke out at the Norochcholai power project in the Puttalam district was brought under control after five hours, a senior police officer at the scene said.

An air force helicopter has been called in to provide support to the fire fighters who have been battling to control the fire which broke out around 7.30 a.m. Sunday.

However no workers at the site have been harmed by the fire, police said.

Journalists and photographers who approached the site were prevented from getting closer by the Chinese workers at the project.

On Saturday some of the Chinese workers had protested over the non-payment of their salaries. Tell a Friend
