Students in Rajarata boycott

(October 28, Colombo, Sri Lanka Guardian) The students at the Rajarata University are boycotting classes from early today in protest over the alleged harassment of a female undergraduate by a group of police officers, Navaratne Chaturanga, a spokesperson for the students said today.

He said that the alleged incident had taken place when the female student was confronted by a group of policemen seeking to know her name and place of residence.

"The boycott will continue until all the policemen are withdrawn from the university premises, Chaturanga said.

He added that some 400 policemen are currently inside the premises since yesterday.
