No persons carrying "white flags" were shot at, former Mullaitivu GA

(November 04, Colombo, Sri Lanka Guardian) Government Agent Jaffna Imelda Sukumar today told the Lessons Learn and Reconciliation Commission that no persons coming with “white flags” into government controlled areas were shot at during the last days of the war in the north.

Ms.Sukumar who served as GA Mullaitivu from 2002 to January, 2009 said that once she moved to Vavuniya, she had met many persons who had escaped from the LTTE and moved into the safety of government areas carrying white flags.

“One of my drivers also escaped that way from the LTTE,” she told the Commission.

She said that she had not had a signal report of persons coming with white flags been shot at.

She however said that the LTTE had shot people who tried to escape from the Puthumathalan area and also restricted their movement by refusing to issue special passes for them to move out. Tell a Friend
