These Men Do Not Deserve Public Office

| by Helasingha Bandara

( December 27, 2014, Colombo, Sri Lanka Guardian) If the opposition can get Rosy Senanayake, Chandrika Kumaranathunge, Hirunika Premachandra and perhaps Susanthika Jayasinghe on one stage to talk about their personal grievances against some of the powerful politicians of this government, they can launch a genuine but serious attack on some of the perverts who are protected by Mahinda Rajapaksha.

Perverts

S.B. Dissanayake
At present the whole country seems to protest against S.B. Dissanayaka for his degrading comments against a woman in our society. Ours is a society in which women are respected for being our mothers and sisters. They perform an immeasurable service to the human race for its continuance. It is not important that he has made this despicable remark, be it against a former president of Sri Lanka or not. He should not have expressed his anti women sentiments against any woman at all. Further to his wish to ripping off Chandrika’s clothes, trampling her and making her run along the streets he was alleged to have attempted to sexually harass the former Sri Lankan sprinter Susanthika Jayasinghe. Such people do not deserve public office. Only MR regime protects such people and indeed uses them to garner votes on the assumption that the people of our country are foolish.

In addition this man was sentenced to two years rigorous imprisonment by five Judge Supreme Court Bench headed by Chief Justice Sarath N. Silva on December 7, 2004 for defaming the Supreme Court during a speech he made at a function in Habaraduwa in the year 2003. In February 2006, he was fully released by President Mahinda Rajapakse.

Mervin Silva
If we are to look into Mervin Silva’s activities properly, this piece should have to be dedicated to that purpose alone. Therefore, we concentrate on his sexist comments and harassment of women. His controversial remarks about the contestants and judges of a reality show became a wide topic of discussion and drew attention of the general public. He made many rude remarks about the opposition MP Rosy Senanayake and MP Upeksha Swarnamali about their beauty and physiques. Rosy can tell the people what he said about herself and Upeksha.

On 4 August 2008 Silva and his bodyguards assaulted Sirasa TV journalist Saliya Ranawaka and cameraman Waruna Sampath and seized their equipment at the opening of a flyover at Thorana Junction in Kelaniya. Silva was tried for the assault but was acquitted after the police failed to file any charges against him

On 3 August 2010 Silva subjected government official Mohammed Ishan Murshuk to public humiliation by tying him to a mango tree. Silva invited the media to witness the official's humiliation. This resulted in public outrage and demonstrations by government officials. On 10 August 2010 it was announced that Silva had been dismissed from his ministerial post and suspended from the SLFP. However, a subsequent SLFP disciplinary cleared him of all charges and on 8 September 2010 he was reappointed to his ministerial post.

On 11 April 2011, Silva's Parliament Affairs Secretary Jayasena Mudiyanselage Buddhi, with two Policemen in uniform and an underworld gangster who is a henchman of Silva, had arrived in Silva’s official vehicle and attempted to extort five million rupees from a scrap metal businessman in Grandpass. However that businessman who happened to be a friend of the Defence Secretary got them arrested while they were threatening & demanding a ransom from him. When things became too hot and beyond Silva’s control, he immediately disassociated himself from Buddhi stating that his Secretary had left the employment a couple of weeks before. However, Silva failed to explain; how Buddhi managed to take Silva’s official vehicle and how the two policemen managed to be released from the police station in Silva's electorate.

It is also alleged that his henchmen assassinated the former chairman of Kelaniya Pradeshiya Sabha.
Mervin is still a Minister under MR’s protection

Kumara Welgama
Sri Lanka's transport Minister Kumara Welgama was quoted as saying to Rosy Senanayake, "You are such a charming woman. I cannot explain my feelings here. But if you meet me outside Parliament, I will describe them … My thoughts are running riot … I don't want to reveal them in public."
Rosy Senanayake’s response was “I consider that as a sexist remark."

Duminda Silva
Duminda Silva is another sex pervert who was alleged have put a pistol into Anarkali’s mouth when his relationship with her became sour.

As a result of a shooting incident, former MP Bharatha Lakshman Premachandra and three others were killed. On November 15, 2011, a magistrate ordered Silva's arrest for the killing of Premachandra.

Criminals

Nishantha Mutuhettigama
Mutuhettigama is known to be a tough guy with a protruding belly on an ugly body. People do not dare meddle in his affaires. Once he said that he wdoesnot give two hoots even about Mahinda Rajapaksha. MR likes such people who can be used to harass and intimidate opposition politicians. Muthu has no respect for the law of the country. He simply is a criminal who could go into a police station and kidnap the three of his colleagues who allegedly set fire to the stage of the opposition rally.

Eraj Fernando
The Mayor brandished a pistol to threaten the UNP representatives who went to check Mattala. He said it was a toy pistol. This time the pistol butted street dramatists with real pistols. If MR wins a third term there won’t be any punishment to the gangster.

Roger Senevirathna
He stole the friend’s wife and broke the friend’s leg when the friend questioned about his wife. An Avissawella Magistrate sentenced the UPFA Western Provincial Councilor Roger Seneviratne to two years rigorous imprisonment suspended for five years after he was found guilty for assaulting and fracturing the leg of the husband of his lover with an iron rod.

Johnston Fernando
Johnston has challenged people to prove that he has stolen money from the people, being fully aware that no one would like to engage in a futile exercise while he is in power and under the protection of Mahinda. Once he loses the grip of power hundreds may come out to give evidence against him for his abuse of power to expand his business empire, about his involvement in importing large stocks of ethanol, his hand in building a hotel on the reservation of the Nikaweratiya tank and indeed for lowering the water level of the tank for the hotel work to continue that destroyed the seasons paddy harvest under Magalla tank.

Johnston has no qualification educationally or otherwise to hold a Ministerial position other than his opportunism. He has given false evidence against Sarath Fonseka to avoid the accusation that he had links with the LTTE and also to receive the Ministerial portfolio. His uncultured nature was well manifest at the TV debate with Ranjan Ramanayaka that was conducted by Hiru TV. Ranjan conducted himself very well as a decent human being while being subjected to verbal abuse and physical threat by Johnston. Johnston kept on screaming in an utterly unbecoming language for a Minister despite the efforts of the presenter to calm him down. If any person with common sense watches this clip they would wonder from which gutter Johnston Fernando comes from. Such are the Ministers who are appointed and protected by MR to rule and develop the country and the nation.

The opposition has a serious responsibility to expose them. Mahinda Rajapaksha should pay the price for appointing and nurturing them.
