Sri Lanka: We're Sorry - State TV

Sajith Premadasa cast his vote for the Presidential Election 2015 this morning at the Abayapura Suranimala Primary School in Hambantota
( January 8, 2015, Colombo, Sri Lanka Guardian) Elections Commissioner ( EC)  Mahinda Deshapriya told the local media, that he personally visited the Sri Lanka Rupavahini Corporation (SLRC), the state run television channel, and requested them to correct the false story it carried on UNP Deputy Leader Sajith Premadasa’s crossover.

The state-run television carried a story on the day of presidential election saying UNP Deputy Leader Sajith Premadasa met President Mahinda Rajapaksa at Carlton Residence in Tangalle and pledged support to the President.

The UNP Deputy Leader complained the Elections Department that the story was completely false and baseless.

The Elections Commissioner, speaking to the media he said the Rupavahini officials agreed to carry a correction over the false news item. It is learnt that the Elections Commissioner instructed the Rupavahini authorities to refrain from violating election laws.

However the TV channel aired the news while apologising for its false news  report later.
