British Prime Minister Theresa May this morning 24 May 2019 has offered to resign on 7 June 2019.
In an emotional speech outside10 Downing Street she stated she had tried her best to honour the will of the people who had voted at the Referendum for Britain to leave the European Union but even after three attempts could not get her deal through Parliament.
She took over from David Cameron three years ago and it has been a difficult job to get both the Brexiteers and the Remainers to accept the deal she negotiated with the European Union in December 2018.
It could take several weeks after June 7,2019 to find her replacement and until then Theresa May will remain as caretaker Prime Minister. The front runners now are Boris Johnson and Dominic Raab, but anything can happen.
Britain elects a party and not a specific potential candidate and the leader of the Party who commands a majority in Parliament becomes Prime Minister.
