A young video shop owner has fled the country after investigators discovered a suspected ‘secret link’ maintained by the LTTE in the heart of a Colombo suburb. A sudden raid on the premises led investigators to take into custody several communication equipment and also interrogate the owner who said he had sublet his upper floor and was unaware of the nature of business that was carried on there.

"I was interrogated and subject to humiliation as a Sinhala Kotiya in the fourth floor by the officers interrogating me ," said the landlord of the premises at Hospital Road, Kalubowila, Dehiwela. Following the police raid the landlord had maintained that he was unaware of a communication link set up by the tenants on his upper floor.

"I had to leave my business, my home and my relatives and escape from this frightening situation where I was being pursued both by the authorities and by the ‘friends’ of my tenants," said the landlord who has now sought refuge overseas.

Meanwhile, according to police sources, several pieces of equipment had been confiscated from the premises at Kalubowila where officers believe an international link was being maintained with the LTTE.
