Oslo police are surprised over how many weapons they've seized from gangs operating in and around Norway's capital, reports Oslo based daily Aftenposten

Their seizures were so alarming, that they decided to publicly display the total haul on Tuesday.

According to the report, the weapons were collected during the course of 530 police "control" actions taken against "gangs and gang-related persons" during the past year. Some of the weapons were seized after police had stopped and ransacked cars and weapon depots under gang control.

Included among them were UZI machine guns, military AG3 automatic weapons, handguns and rifles. Many were Chinese- or Russian-made.

"Here are weapons for any occasion," said Eirik Jensen of the Oslo Police District. He and his colleagues called the stash "a frightening arsenal."

A police crackdown on gangs in Norway was spurred by a shoot-out last summer at the popular and affluent Aker Brygge waterfront complex in Oslo. The trial of one of the main gang suspects involved in the shoot-out began this week.
