“Wimal’s JVP has been given Oxygen to Gasping Govt.” –Managala

(December, 17, Colombo, Sri Lanka Guardian) Member of Parliament and a leader of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party Mahajana Wing (SLFP [M]) Mangala Samaraweera say the present government could have been defeated at the crucial budget vote last week if not for the great betrayal by the Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna under Wimal Weerawansa.

Speaking to the media in Colombo today (Dec. 17th), Samaraweera quoted what the JVP had been saying in the period between the first and second votes on Budget 2008.

At the last moment, the hunger for power made Wimal Weerawansa and others to disregard the public aspirations and to act in defence of the budget, he charged.

According to Samaraweera, “Wimal has been rejected the party’s central committee decision on the budget, he also given Oxygen to gasping Government in a last moment.”

The Rajapaksa-Weerawansa cohabitation should be held accountable for the economic anarchy, bribery and public repression in the future, the SLFP (M) leader said.

Also speaking here, Chief Coordinator of SLFP (M) Sripathi Sooriyarachchi promised to expose the JVP’s links with arms dealers and the unlawful manner in which certain of its members obtained radio licenses.
