(February 20, Colombo, Sri Lanka Guardian) According to the Minister of Foreign Employment Promotion and Welfare, the Government of Sri Lanka has taken measures to explore the possibility of securing job opportunities for Sri Lankans in developed countries.The Government would be focusing on Japan, which has already entered into several Agreements pertaining to this issue. Poland and Israel will be two other major countries to send Sri Lankan workers.
The Minister stated that an Agreement between Israel and Sri Lanka, to this effect, would also be signed in the near future.
He further stated that statistics, with regard to worker migration over the past few months, indicate a boost in this sector. It has increased by 14% during the last year.
