China Extends Agriculture Cooperation to Sri Lanka

(March 07, Beijing, Sri Lanka Guardian) “As a result of the conclusion of a Memorandum of Understanding on Agriculture Cooperation between Sri Lanka and China signed during the visit of H E the President to China in 2007, the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Mechanization Sciences (CAAMS) is sending a high level delegation to Sri Lanka to assist in improving agriculture research and technology to enhance agriculture output in Sri Lanka,” according to statement rralcesedby the Sri Lankan Embassy in Beijing on today morning.

“The delegation will be led by Prof. Xuan Hong, Vice President and Executive Chairman of the Joint Project with two engineers having expertise in the area of renewable energy. During their stay in Sri Lanka the delegation is expected to participate at the Joint Working Committee Meeting with the Sri Lankan Agriculture Scientists at Post-graduate Research Centre in Gannoruwa and also visit research stations in Maha Iluppallama and Anuradhapura,” the statement added.

The Ministry of Agricultural Development and Agrarian Services of Sri Lanka with the Department of Agriculture coordinates this programme.

The Chinese Working Committee has gone through the project proposals submitted by their Sri Lankan counterparts and agreed to assist in most of the proposals during the period 2008 – 2010. CAAMS has already agreed to conduct a training course on new technologies of agricultural machinery in Sri Lanka in July 2008.

Sri Lanka Embassy in China coordinates the programme with CAAMS and the Department of Agriculture of Sri Lanka.
