Mano Ganesan attends talks at Rauf Hakeem’s residence

(June 11, Colombo, Sri Lanka Guardian) Sri Lanka Muslim Congress (SLMC) and Western Peoples Front (WPF) leaders have started discussions to formulate ways for coming closer politically. Both parties representing Tamil speaking minorities have realized the historical necessity for this. SLMC and WPF both work together in a loose alliance with United National Party in the opposition. Talks covered many political issues including that of examining methods to be carried out at the time of any future elections. Both sides have agreed to establish a Memorandum of Understanding between two parties.

Parliamentarian Saffeek Rajabdeen and Western Provincial Councilor Praba Ganesan have been nominated to head respective committees of SLMC and WPF. This joint committee is entrusted with the responsibility of preparing a draft for the MoU. Initial talks were held at SLMC leader Rauf Hakeem’s residence in Colombo. Rauf Hakeem with members of SLMC high command participated at the talks while Mano Ganesan and General Secretary Dr. Nalliah Kumaraguruparan MMC represented WPF. During the talks SLMC also expressed it’s willingness to participate in the Civil Monitoring Commission’s human rights campaign conducted by Mano Ganesan as it’s Convener.
