Sri Lanka Navy Chief of Staff Retires

(June 07, Colombo, Sri Lanka Guardian) Chief of Staff of the Sri Lanka Navy, Rear Admiral Wasantha Tennekoon retired on 07th June 2008 after almost 35 years of service in the Sri Lanka Navy.

He joined the Navy on 20th August 1973, and became the Chief of Staff of the Sri Lanka Navy on 21st May 2007.

He had commanded several Key operational Areas in the Navy, including Northern, North Central & Southern Naval Area, and also served as Director Naval Administration & Welfare, Director General - Services & Deputy Chief of Staff. He also served as the Coordinating Officer in Galle district during Tsunami disaster in December 2004.

Rear Admiral Tennakoon served as Officiating Vice Chancellor (Commandant) of the Sir John Kotalawala Defence University, the country’s only Defence University. He is a specialist Gunner and a graduate of the prestigious National Defence College in Pakistan and holds a Masters degree in Defence and Strategic Studies.
