Volunteer teachers of Jaffna meet Devananda

(June 03, Jaffna, Sri Lanka Guardian) A group of Volunteer Teachers organized by the Jaffna Volunteer Teachers’ Association met with at a discussion Douglas Devananda, Minister of Social Services and Social Welfare concerning their teaching appointments.

This meeting took place whilst actions are being taken regarding their absorption to the Sri Lanka Teacher Service on their applications made to the Minister on his previous visits to the Jaffna.

Minister expressing his views to the Volunteer Teachers, said that he already had submitted a name list of 530 Volunteer Teachers, this list he added contains names of 380 teachers from Jaffna 74 from Mannar and 76 from Vavuniya. He assured them that according to the decision arrived by the Members of Cabinet that they would soon be absorbed to the Sri Lanka Teacher Service and for this purpose a memorandum would be submitted to the Cabinet at his earliest.

Minister further said that these appointments could have been made very much earlier but due to unavoidable circumstances it was delayed and a decision taken recently at a high level conference these obstructions were done away with and a memorandum would soon be submitted to the Cabinet of Ministers and the appointments would be made accordingly in the near future.
