Linking JVP with the LTTE, is it gullible?

- The Sudar Oli Editorial

(July 13, Colombo, Sri Lanka Guardain) Minister Eheliya Rambukewella, the government defence spokesman has made a statement that the JVP launched a general strike in order to support the LTTE. The government, which is committed to a military solution, has to rely on the war as an excuse for all lapses and omissions.
Being disturbed over the general strike launched by the JVP for the welfare of the people, particularly of the workers, the government cites the war as an excuse to dissuade them from supporting strike.

The fact that the JVP is anti-LTTE, and that it is against the demands of the Tamil people is well known. It is public knowledge that being committed to Buddhist, Sinhala extremist views, JVP is opposed to any peaceful, negotiated settlement. It is committed to a military solution.

In fact, it was the JVP that strongly demanded the abrogation of the Ceasefire agreement. JVP is such an extremist political party.

The JVP is opposed to any dialogue with the LTTE. It maintains that the government must unleash all its might to crush the LTTE.

The JVP maintains that there can never be any devolution of power for the Tamil people on a regional basis. It said that if necessary, there can be devolution of power only at the village level.

In this back drop, Minister Rambukwella states that the JVP's motive for the general strike is to help the LTTE and to bring harm to the security forces. JVP wants a salary increase of Rs 5000 for government employees, which would mean a reduction on the expenditure for the war. This is what the LTTE, too, expects. That means there is some link between the two - the JVP and the LTTE, the Minister said.

Will it be gullible to the South?
