An abominable order!

– The Sudar Oli Editorial

(September 15, Colombo, Sri Lanka Guardian) The order issued to the non governmental and UN organizations that perform urgent humanitarian services to the Tamil people affected by the war to leave the Wanni area is abominable for it prevents the NGO’s from discharging sacred duties that are obligatory.

Tamil National Alliance has condemned this order as another measure reflecting the genocidal policy of the government. This order has to be construed as a measure intended to deny the Tamil people, who are in a great tragedy following the war.

All Party Parliamentary Group of the British House of Commons has also condemned the order. This group demanded that the UK Government must appeal to the UNO to impose ban on the Lankan government for its inhumanitarian acts against the Lankan Tamils.

This group has expressed the view that the present military operation of the Lankan government that puts the Tamil civilians in a human tragedy under the pretext of fighting the LTTE is unacceptable.

The order is abominable in the context in which civilians are caught up in the war, when a large number of people are displaced, when the civilians need urgent basic needs, and when the NGO’s are engaged in humanitarian mission.

There is reason in the condemnation by the West including UK. There is justice in their condemnation!

This is a grave issue in which the international community ought to act expeditiously!
