Anti social elements!

– Thinakkural Editorial

(September 11, Colombo, Sri Lanka Guardian) According to police sources, they have arrested a gang that had been obtaining ransom from businessmen in Trincomalee.

Two of the gang of 14 persons are women. It has been revealed from investigations that they had been involved in committing several crimes such as robberies, murders and abductions.

This trend of crimes continues even in other parts of the country also. This is a dangerous trend. People are unable to engage in their work peacefully. They are unable to travel without fear. These criminal activities of the anti social elements are a threat to peace and harmony in the society.

Meanwhile, there are reports of bribery and corruption in government departments. The members of the public are unable get their work done without offering bribes. The long arm of the law does not reach them. Even if it reaches they escape in one way or the other. There are politicians who connive with such anti-social elements.

These political forces must realize that there must be a healthy political culture for the future of this country.
