An Indian Fishermen attacked, again

(September 16, Ramanathapuram, Sri Lanka Guardian) The Sri Lankan Navy reportedly attacked Indian fishermen at mid sea on Monday (Sep. 15), claiming that the fishermen had crossed the IMBL. A boat that was damaged returned ashore.

According to Fisheries Department sources, more than 50 Lankan Navy personnel had surrounded the Indian boats near Katchathivu and attacked the fishermen, warning them not to cross the IMBL.

A mechanised boat was damaged when a Lankan naval vessel rammed against it.Four fishermen in the boat, Nambu of Natarajapuram, Edison of Keelakadu, Palsamy of Thathanenthal and Vallimuthu of Gandhi Nagar, who sustained injuries, returned to the shore in the damaged boat. Fishermen here are perturbed that this was a violation of the assurance given by Sri Lanka to M K Narayanan, National Security Advisor to PM, that Sri Lankan navy would not attack TN fishermen.
