Jaya flays Karunanidhi on telegrams to PM

(October 09, Chennai, Sri Lanka Guardian) AIADMK supremo J Jayalalithaa today criticised Chief Minister M Karunanidhi’s idea of flooding the Prime Minister Office with telegrams to take initiatives to put an end to the atrocities on the Sri Lankan Tamils.

In a press statement here, the AIADMK leader said Karunanidhi should pressure the Prime Minister to call up his Sri Lankan counterpart and demand him to stop the genocide against the Tamils.

Stating her stand on the ethnic issue, Jayalalithaa said the party would only support for the Tamils’ fight for self-determination but not for Tamil militancy or terrorism since it would leave imprint of blood in India and even posed a threat to the security and sovereignty of the Indian Nation.

‘Karunanidhi is trying to obfuscate matters by mixing up the two and he, even, accused me of being whimsical and inconsistent in my policy on Sri Lankan issue’, she said.

‘What we are opposed to is an armed struggle, which has lost its way, as a result of which thousands of innocent men, women and children on either side are being wantonly killed’, Jayalalitthaa said, adding that AIADMK were distressed on the assassination of the former Indian Prime Minister on Tamil soil as fallout of this armed struggle.

She also criticised Karunanidhi that he was merely confining himself to issuing statements sitting in Chennai on Sri Lankan Tamils’ plight.

She urged the Central government to mobilise the necessary relief materials for the Sri Lankan Tamils suffering without food, clothing, shelter or medicine.
