What in hell is happening in the East!

“It appears the TMVP is a much confused political party with various groups and individuals pulling in different directions governed by petty and personal interests. The party is certainly heading for disaster, commented someone close to it. He may even have been a member and left the party in utter disgust.”

A Sri Lanka Guardian Report

(October 10, Batticaloa, Sri Lanka Guardian) Seelan who is the right hand man of the Chief Minister of Eastern Province Shivaneshadurai Chandrakanthan alias Pillaiyan is reported to have vamoosed to India two days ago. Sri Lanka Guardian has learnt through sources linked to the Provincial Council in the East of his escape.

A known merciless bounty hunter in collecting ransoms not just in the east alone, Seelan handles defense matters for Chief Minister Pillaiyan. Recently he demanded a million rupees in a ransom of threat from a Tamil school teacher in Colombo but the family got over the situation very narrowly through the help of some top level defense officials in the capital.

His disappearance from Sri Lanka without the knowledge of the party and the government follows a similar flight of two others of the chief minister’s people also to India a few weeks ago.
It appears the TMVP is a much confused political party with various groups and individuals pulling in different directions governed by petty and personal interests. The party is certainly heading for disaster, commented someone close to it. He may even have been a member and left the party in utter disgust.

Opportunities to have key positions in the government and the bureaucracy have been generally seen as chances to make money through corrupt means. With the country so corrupt, the TMVP party people must also be wondering what’s in it for them. Despite what is happening in the entire country, this curse seems to have dominance.

Meanwhile, Sri Lanka Guardian learns that Pillaiyan, Rahu and the TMVP media spokesperson Azad Maulana are planning on a visit to Switzerland and some other European countries too. They are believed to be preparing a statement to submit to the government as to why it is necessary to undertake this trip.

Recently we exposed that a Pillaiyan associate took a three million rupee bribe from the Hingurana Distilleries (Pvt) Ltd. He sent one of his colleagues Jeganathan (not his real name) to meet Nishantha, a family administrator of the company and collected the amount.

A Senior Security Officer in the East told Sri Lanka Guardian that the time has come for a serious investigation on the administration of the East where the Rule of Law is in serious trouble. If the government fails to take proper steps without any delay, the consequences could be horrendous Chief, said the officer.
