Will Rajnikanth attend Rameshwaram rally?

(October 13, Chennai, Sri Lanka Guardian) With various organisations in the Tamil film industry, including artistes association and producers council, deciding to take out a rally on 19 October in Rameswaram to protest the ‘killing of Tamils’ by the Lankan Army, the question now doing rounds in Kollywood is whether actor Rajnikanth would attend the rally or not?

It may be recalled that Rajnikanth took part in a fast organised by the film fraternity recently over the vexatious Hogenakkal issue and his speech drew the ire of both Kannadigas and Tamils. He was forced to express regret to the people of Karnataka over his speech made on the occasion.

Under such circumstances, all eyes are now focussed on Rajnikanth. Will the actor attended the rally or not, is the question doing the rounds.

Veteran director Bharathiraja announced on Sunday that that all films-related work would be suspended between 18 and 20 October. A mega rally to be attended by film artistes would take place on 19 October at Rameshwaram.

Sources said Rajnikanth, who is shooting for Eindhiran would stay away from the meeting to avoid further controversy. Meanwhile, actor and DMDK president Vijayakanth, who is busy with his party’s youth conference on 18 October in Chennai, was also expected to abstain from the rally.

Actor Kamal Haasan, who is currently busy with pre-production works of the magnum opus Marma Yogi had reportedly not decided on taking part in the rally.

It may be noted that Nadigar Sangam had issued strict warning to all its members to attend the fast organised for Hogenakkal issue last time, no action was taken on those who abstained from it.

Meanwhile, reports said that Rajnikanth returned to Chennai from Goa where he had been to shoot for Eindhiran.
