"Govt. using its deflated budget proposals to inflate its dead policies"

(November 20, Colombo, Sri Lanka Guardian) UNP M.P. Palitha Range Bandara addressing the media at the UNP media unit today (20 Nov) said, unlike the Govt. which is only concerned with power at any cost, and therefore invites into its fold even traitors ,terrorists and hooligans, the UNP has decided to maintain its clean record with true loyalists and national minded politicos.

To achieve this end , the UNP working Committee at its meeting decided on the 21st of this month to expel several UNP politicos of the District and Provincial Councils forthwith who could not adhere to its code of conduct and show loyalty and concern for the party and people . The UNP believes in strengthening the party and its voter base by maintaining party discipline and only having in it only those who are genuinely interested in serving the people and not themselves .This is in profound contrast to the Govt. ‘s attitude of inducing and intimidating persons to join it even if they are corrupt and anti national , only to increase its headcount and pass its budgets, he added.

Referring to the killing of Pillayan’s Secretary, and his aide at Aturugiriya, Colombo recently , he said ,according to Pillayan it is not the LTTE who had committed the murders. This is a serious allegation in the backdrop of the Govt.’s eagerness to incriminate the LTTE for every murder. This clearly underlines that there is another terror group on the killing spree to whom the Govt. is trying to give protective cover . Even in the murder of Janaka Perera , the Govt. was too quick with blaming the LTTE even before the investigation was started. While the Govt. is claiming to fight Tigers in the North , it is obvious that it is creating another set of terrorists to serve its own selfish ends. Karuna group, another breakaway tiger terror faction is allegedly on a killing spree with the Govt. doing nothing about it. The Govt. is boasting of liberation of the East , but it is the terror groups who are reigning supreme there with the civilians always in tension and fear, he pinpointed.

The Budget 2009 too follows this same hole and corner gimmicks of the Govt. It talks of developing the local Industries , but it does not know how or where to start. . It has spun this ‘Industry developing ’yarn merely to justify the massive unconscionable tax hikes and burdens it heaped on the masses, he pointed out. Truly speaking , the actual picture is that every Industry , from Tea, coconut, rubber , Garment are all on the verge of collapse because of the overriding concern of those responsible in the Govt. to make a fast buck in every sphere at the expense of the workers who would lose their jobs and the country, he exclaimed.
