(November 07, Chennai, Sri Lanka Guardian) It seems that the arrests of MDMK leader Vaiko and film directors Seeman and Ameer have not deterred those openly supporting the LTTE in Tamilnadu.
For, apart from a host of websites and blogs from ‘unknown’ sympathisers of the Tigers, celebrities too have occupied the cyberspace in support of the banned organisation.
A blog, www.seemaan.wordpress.com, apparently run by those acquainted with the filmmaker, has got a series of articles in support of the LTTE.
At present, the site’s homepage features an interview of Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi chief Thirumavalavan to a Tamil magazine, in which he has said that it was better to land in prison than keeping mum over the Lankan issue.
‘I have been supporting the LTTE and its leader Prabhakaran for the past 25 years. No one can change my stand. My only worry is that I could not join the Tigers in their war. I can’t be a coward just because they would arrest me for expressing my thoughts,’ Thirumavalavan was quoted as saying in the interview.
In addition, there are a series of posts including a speech of Seeman at an eulogy meeting held in Chennai following the death of LTTE leader Tamilselvan.
There is another blog, www.subavee.wordpress.com, which has as its tagline ‘Ahimsa is a violence against violence. And an ahimsa which preaches tolerance during violence is also a violence.’
Apparently run by Suba Veerapandian, a Tamil outfit leader who had faced a jail term under the POTA for allegedly expressing his support to the LTTE, this blog too openly expresses its love for the Tigers and sympathy to the ailing Tamils in the island nation.
The blog has got a video clipping of a speech by Veerapandian in London, titled ‘Maaverar Naal Urai’ (Martyrs’ Day speech), not to forget about a number of other posts in support of the Lankan Tamils.
