President Rajapaksa condoles the death of former Maldivian President



(November 28, Colombo, Sri Lanka Guardian) President Mahinda Rajapaksa has hailed the contribution of the founder President of the Republic of Maldives, Ibrahim Nasir who passed away recently. President Rajapaksa in a message of condolence to his Maldivian counterpart, President Mohamed Nasheed, has recalled former President Nasir’s contribution to the development of the Maldives, in particular tourism and fisheries, which has been widely recognized.

President Rajapaksa, while expressing the profound sympathy of the Government and the people of Sri Lanka, has requested President Nasheed to convey his sincere condolences to the members of the family of the late former President Nasir, on his demise.

Excellency,

I was saddened to learn of the death of the former President of the Republic of Maldives, H.E. Mr. Ibrahim Nasir.

The late H.E. Mr. Ibrahim Nasir was instrumental in restoring the sovereignty of the Maldives from colonial rule and his contribution towards the development of the country, in particular, tourism and fisheries has been widely recognized. He has been an integral part of the modernization process in the Maldives.

On this sad occasion, the Government and the people of Sri Lanka join me in extending our profound sympathy to Your Excellency, the Government and the people of the Maldives. Please convey our sincere condolences to the members of the family of the late H.E. Mr. Ibrahim Nasir.
