The killer was not TMVP member, but worked for polls: Pilliyan

(March 19, Colombo, Sri Lanka Guardian) Chief Minister of the Eastern Province Mr.Sivanesathurai Chandrakanthan alias Pilliyan Thursday at a press briefing held at Trincomalee Welcombe Hotel denied that a suspect Jana involved in the alleged abduction and killing of six year-old student Varsha Jude Reggie of Trincomalee St.Mary’s College was not a member of the TMVP but worked for the TMVP in the last provincial council election.

He added all TMVP offices in Trincomalee had been converted as offices of another party.

“People should know that the TMVP had no need to collect money through extortion. A group which was against the TMVP had been working to tarnish the image of him and his party”, he said.

Mr.Chandrakanthan made the above observation at the end of the press briefing to inform that the TMVP had released its all child combatants from their custody. Justice Ministry Secretary Mr.Sugath Gamlath, Deputy Inspector of General of Police, Eastern Province Mr.Ananda Hettiarachchi and UNICEF Trincomalee Head. Ms Joyce Gachiri attended the briefing.

However a list of 100 names of suspected Child soldiers was handed over by the UNICEF representatives and Mr. Chandrakanthan handed over the list to the DIG to carryout further investigations.
