Election commussioner has violated fundamental rights- SC

( March 19, Colombo, Sri Lanka Guardian) The Supreme Court ruled today that the Elections Commissioner had violated fundamental rights by not registering political parties without citing reasons to do so.

The Supreme Court made the ruling on two fundamental rights petitions challenging the refusal of the Elections Commissioner for not registering the United People's Front and Peratugami Party without citing reasons for the refusal.

The two petitions had cited the Elections Commissioner and others as respondents.

By failing to cite reasons for his actions, the Elections Commissioner has violated basic natural justice, the Supreme Court ruled.
