(May 28, Colombo, Sri Lanka Guardian) UNP MP for Hambantota Sajith Premadasa has called on the Sri Lankan citizenry to defeat international conspiracies against the armed forces who had rescued the motherland from the scourge of terrorism.

This has become their supreme responsibility, as plans are afoot to distort, ridicule and discredit the brave military commanders, heroic soldiers and their humanitarian operation through 'kangaroo courts,' international war tribunals and the Human Rights Commission, he said in a statement.

The MP said he extends the heartiest gratitude of the UNP, the Premadasa family and of his own to the three armed forces, police and the defence sector for having committed their lives to safeguard the sovereignty, unity and political freedom of the motherland.

After their historic victory, the heroic soldiers now have to face the challenge of a sly conspiracy by foreign forces, imperialists and part of the world community.

Time has come to unite all patriotic and progressive forces to demolish the conspiracies by outsiders and imperialists, said Mr. Premadasa.

With the elimination of Tiger terrorism, our motherland has gained true freedom, which has been made possible due to the unforgettable commitment and services of heroic soldiers.

It is known to all that many outsiders and imperialist forces had tried 24 hours of the day to distort and halt the war victories of the heroic soldiers and humanitarian operations, he said in the statement.

Those forces are still at work and are striking death blows to the sovereignty of other motherland, even after the defeat of Tiger terrorism.

Foremost among these plots is to take our heroic soldiers before war tribunals and the Human Rights Commission to make them helpless and to influence their morale, with the aim of reviving Tiger terrorism.

Mr. Premadasa said in his statement that he pleads with and asks all Sri Lankans humbly to unite and commit themselves to protect the heroic soldiers who are safeguarding the motherland.
