Gen. Sarath Fonseka! – The man of the moment.

(October 25, Colombo, Sri Lanka Guardian) The former Army Chief, General Sarath Fonseka, the person who was not bestowed with an honorary doctorate for his achievements by our state controlled universities is held in high esteem by the people for defeating the LTTE outright. Awarding honorary doctorates for political reasons is the current thinking of the pseudo intellectuals in our universities who easily subscribe to political pressures or do things to obtain favours to get promotions and postings.

This column was started just before a very special statement released by the Secretary of the Defence Dr. Gotabhaya Rajapaksha, and Mathelee was lucky to use his name in this column last time. But it will take some time to reach the people because of the restrictions imposed for the column to be sent through my email that has been blocked.

The journalists in Sri Lanka and abroad are concerned about the government’s war doctrine that eliminated the most ruthless terrorist organization at a huge cost of civilian casualties and destruction. The government is pursuing the ultra selfish, arrogant and intolerant methods, is all out to destroy the very man General Sarath Fonseka, who gave the historical victory to them against the LTTE.

Situation in Colombo seems peaceful but the political underhand work and opportunists parading to get favours to become godfathers are in the making.

Attacking the West has become the preoccupation. The beggars cannot be choosy. Whilst in the begging spree, to cover up their evil sins, the self promoting Desa Bando’s position themselves to ridicule our motherland in the international arena. Their agenda is not to help Sri Lanka but to fill their own bellies in the five star hotels and to fatten their offshore bank accounts.

A traitor will do anything to portray him as not a conspirator. They will attack their own people and even bend down and kiss their hands opportunistically to reflect that they are not traitors.

Mathalee’s hard work has helped to collect some videos about these treacherous lots and that exposes their personal lives. But Mathalee is a decent human and will never release them publicly because it will only create more mess for the country that is knee jerking in every spear. But Mathalee is mindful, these tantalising recordings are only good for garbage journalism and is retained in a safe locker to be played when the real opportunity arises.

Mathalee’s mission is well known. Many intriguing stories of internal dealings have been received since my publication of my last column. Some details have been sent under strictly confidential basis to be quoted without revealing the source in any write-ups.

The Sinhala Kotiya Wimal Weerawanse is still struggling to eat the sour grapes of the Southern Provincial Council election results. Unable to digest the home grown grapes, he went to Europe to vomit his downright undigesting arrogance of anti-Western homophobia. His patriotism will not go beyond disrespecting the minorities and hate mongering of the West and also our neighbour India. But his matini Mrs Weerawanse is still in the high profile galore spree, dishing out money in the beauty parlours and top hair dressers.

Wimal has to still learn the difference between patriotism and true democracy. The petty despot has forgotten, he is one of those who destroyed democracy in the Island nation. He cried like a baby that did not have breast milk in his childhood in the parliament soon after he was sacked by the JVP. This potty mindset will even suck his thumb and cry again when he is sacked by the Chinthanaya regime when a deal is stuck with the JVP before the next general election. Of course, everyone knows Wimal’s real challenge is not the JVP but the JHU and the leadership of Champika Ranawaka and Udaya Gamaanpila.

S B Dissanayake came out with the suggestion of common candidate for the impending Presidential election. He is another dreamer living in the Pandora’s box. He has joined with the Tamil politicians like Mano Ganesan and releasing statements against an iconic common candidate. No doubt Mano had rushed to release his comment without striking a deal with the icon. Having exhausted his energy on the common candidate, SB now wants an Island wide power base centring with a common candidate. SB can start with phoning Pillayan, the Eastern Chief Minister who had breakfast with SB in SB’s Palace in Hanguranketha joined by LTTE’s Kaushalayan and Ramesh few years ago. After that, he can try TNA and then the TULF and why not Col Karuna and Doughy whom can be bought over with a platter of Seeni Bolas.

SB is a good man in politics. He is the one who gave his Ministry’s funds to Dr Mahinda Rajapaksha while the former President CBK refused to channel any funds to MR. All these are history, who cares about SB now.

I was surprised to see the official visit to Vietnam by Dr. Mahinda Rajapaksha taking the well known figure who was sacked recently from Geneva for advocating power sharing with the minorities. Dr MR’s must have faced international criticism for removing the eminent emissary. Is it an effort to use the gentlemen to whitewash the barbaric tactics of the Chinthanaya regime? Dr Chinthanaya knows how he could abuse the ambassador’s ability to overcome his difficulties. Mathalee prays for the former emissary and hope the same will not recur like his experience of being removed from Geneva. And we wish him all the best.

Let me say another great wish to our war hero General Sarath Fonseka. We will have to give a pseudonym name to him to avoid being persecuted under the military law.

Since the President Mahinda Rajapakse came to power there were many attempts by the Colombo UNP supporters and LTTE supporters to defeat and destroy him politically. Few years back these groups tried their best to create a FAIL STATE out of Sri Lanka. Thanks to the President’s clever strategies and the pure luck of the people of Sri Lanka, UNP, LTTE and people like Mathalee miserably failed in their cruel attempt to destroy the political stability and the recovering economic stability in Sri Lanka.
People of Sri Lanka suffered over 30 years of brutal and violent war with one of the most ruthless terrorist organizations in the world. Sri Lanka lost over 70,000 lives and ended up with thousands of disable soldiers and innocent people due to land mines and road side bombings. Thanks to the President Rajapakshe, Secretary to the ministry of Defense Gotabaya Rajapakse, General Sarath Fonseka, Admiral Karannagoda, Air Marshal Rohan Gunathilake and thousands of servicemen and service women who sacrificed their lives, the country is beginning to come back from its dark days.
The latest ploy of this miserable group is to create a split between the administration and the armed forces. Realizing that they are not able to defeat the President in the next election now they are trying to put a carrot front of General Sarath Fonseka, believing that he will take the bait. People in Sri Lanka are no dummies. They understand the suffering they went thru last 30 years. They have seen the Norwegians, they have seen the British and some Canadian and even some American legislators act after receiving thousands of dollars from the LTTE thru their proxies.
There are LTTE sympathizers in Sri Lanka who supports war crime allegations against the forces as well as the administration in Sri Lanka strictly for their political gain. They forget the central bank bombing, the massacres of Buddhist monks , Muslim worshipers, high school baseball team from D.S.Senanayake, the daily bombings in the cities, bombings of the sacred Buddhist temple in Kandy, killings of Sinhala and Tamil leaders of Sri Lanka and over 70,000 people who lost their lives. Their continuous plan is to destroy the current administration and come to power and to divide the country. While people in Sri Lanka appreciate the defeat of terrorism and governments effort to build back the country and bring back the peace, the people like Mathalee, and some of the bankrupt UNP politicians including Mangala Samaraweera are still trying to destroy the country rather than giving a helping hand to the government to overcome the international pressure and move forward with its agenda to build harmony among the communities. I hope General Fonseka will understand the cynical motives of the forces behind this recruitment effort. Their ulterior motive is to sacrifice both the forces and the administration to the LTTE forces in a very roundabout way so they can come to power. They are so desperate they will do anything and everything to get back to power. Meantime the LTTE forces will sit and wait for their turn.
“If the ocean is the freedom, its fountain is the baby in the cradle. Dear son, you should keep this in mind and fulfill your responsibility in protecting the motherland from various challenges.” (S.Mahinda)

General who? Increasingly it sounds American influence in Sri Lankan politics. Recent visit by Fonseka to America to see his two daughters studying there without any protests from the Tamil Diaspora or the American Sighs, indicate of this involvement. General Fonseka who lambasted Ranil for his inaction and the so called peace agreement suddenly has found common grounds to speak with him. Some of the utterances of Fonseka are lop siding with his current conduct. If he behaves this way the government is right for not having entrusted him with any responsible position after the war. All along he has been a hungry man and a political turn coat. With American support, and the UNP and JVP and also the TNA he can split the patriotic vote in Sri Lanka. The strengthened Army should not be a part of any of these processes.
Sarath Fonseka always bragged about winning the war, as if it was only for his efforts. He sidelined the Air force and the Navy in doing so. Fonseka’s junior days tell it all. Being an undisciplined junior officer, he managed to rise to the Army commander at the invitation of the President. From an obscure army officer he rode to prominence with the effort of the government of Sri Lanka, particularly its defense secretary. While in America he has uttered the Tamils should be free to live any where in the country. But he did not tell that after the war. He was making concerns of immediate settlement of IDP citing security concerns. Even the suggestions of the government to move in settlement fast were not good enough for Fonseka then. This kind of power hungry people should be eliminated from Sri Lankan political landscape pretty soon. US might have assured him safe stay in US if he contested the elections. After all General Fonseka’s eyes have been on US eventually not Sri Lanka.
He will be well funded by ill gotten money from UNP coffers and perhaps LTTE funds hell bent to defeat Rajapaksa regime. Present Army commander should be mindful not to get dragged in to this dirty game and uphold the constitution of Sri Lanka. Recently Ravaya was suggesting according to the Law creating Chief of Defense Staff, Fonseka is being given lots of powers which he can use when the time comes. I do not understand the slant of these words. Perhaps there must be a meaning to it.
