I got 123,000 preferential votes, says Muthuhettigama

(October 20, Colombo, Sri Lanka Guardian) “I got 127,000 preferential votes from the Galle district at the provincial council election,” said Nishantha Muthuhettigama yesterday. Neither the General Secretary nor the President has informed me about this and I don't think there is a reason for such a thing to be done,” said Muthuhettigama.

He was responding to a statement by Minister Maithripala Sirisena, General Secretary of the SLFP that Southern Provincial Councillor-elect Nishantha Muthuhettigama had been removed from the post of SLFP organiser of the Akmeemana electorate.

The general secretary had said that Mr. Muthuhettigama had been removed from the post for violating party disciplinary rules. He had added that Dr. Ramesh Pathirana had been appointed as the new SLFP organiser of the electorate.

Muthuhettigama said that there was no reason to remove him from the post of organiser as he was also the fourth on the overall list last year for successfully ernrolling new members.

“I am ready to face a disciplinary inquiry at any time. If I have done something wrong, then I don't have any issue. There are no documents to be brought forward but there are many people who could harm the party who are holding on to big posts within the party.
“Therefore, if someone is committed to causing great damage to the party, then disciplinary inquiries should be conduced on them.

“I am disappointed with the General Secretary of the Alliance,” said Muthuhettigama.
