JVP can work with any party on national interests: Lalkantha

(October 15, Colombo, Sri Lanka Guardian)The JVP can work with any party on national interests. As it is an independent party with no affiliations or obligations towards any party or faction, it is in a position to work with the SLFP, UNP, with Mr. Wickremabahu Karunaratne or even the TNA on national interests, says the convenor of the JVP, parliamentarian K. D. Lalkantha.

Addressing 12th Convention of the All Island Transport Services Union yesterday, he commented on forming political alliances and reiterated that the JVP was an independent party.

“Two names are being mentioned. It is being mentioned in the papers that some quarters are looking for a common candidate. Two persons are being spoken of. One is former chief justice Sarath N. Silva, but he has not said anything about it.

“People are saying that we are also looking for a common candidate.

“Former Army commander and the Chief of Defence Staff, Sarath Fonseka's name is also been mentioned. But he too has not said anything about it,” said Lalkantha.
