Mahinda Rajapaksa on Nepal visit, meets Prachanda

(October 29, Kathmandu,Sri Lanka Guardian) Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa, on a three-day pilgrimage-cum-official tour to Nepal, met Maoist supremo Prachanda here today.

Rajapaksa had to cut short his visit to Nepal earlier this year after a terror attack on Sri Lankan cricketers in Pakistan. He was scheduled to travel to Lumbini then but had to postpone his visit and rush back to Sri Lanka.

The President arrived here earlier today and was received by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sujata Koirala at the Tribhuvan International Airport.

Later, former Prime Minister and Maoist chief Prachanda called on him at his hotel. Details on their discussions were not immediately available.

Rajapaksa, who is in Nepal on a three-day visit, will meet President Ram Baran Yadav, Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal, Deputy Prime Minister Koirala and other senior leaders during his brief stay.
